Samsung Galaxy M31 – 6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB Storage

I thought the Samsung Galaxy M31 is bang for the buck when I saw this sub 20K phone for the first time.  The specifications were impressive too. When I compared the M31 with other phones in the same price segment, I realized this is no bang for the buck.

The Samsung Galaxy M31 is available in two variants, both have 6GB RAM with 64GB and 128GB storage. The Samsung price for 64GB is Rs. 16999/- and 128GB is 17999, however, there will be some sort of discount when you buy online. (Read more posts about Samsung Phones under 20000)

Samsung Galaxy M31 Quick Specs

Display: The Galaxy M31 is a 6.4” phone packed with Super AMOLED FHD+ display with integrated touch function and a screen resolution of 2340×1090 pixels. This is one of the Pro’s to the phone.

Camera: Like any smartphone in the segment, the Samsung Galaxy M31 has a quad camera setup. It has a 64MP primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide camera, 5MP depth sensor and 5MP for macro shots. It’s photo quality is alleged to be average and the phone lacks features such as optical image stabilization, auto focus etc. On the front is the 32MP sensor with capability of capturing 4K videos.

Chipset: Samsung will never let go of Exynos processors in its smartphones, at least in India. The Galaxy M31 has Exynos 9611 chipset not as popular as the Qualcomm Snapdragons. But this processor does a decent job when you indulge in gaming, mobile photography or any kind of multitasking.

Security: You can unlock the Galaxy M31 using face unlock or through a fingerprint sensor. These are responsive and I have no further comments for this.

Battery: The Galaxy M31 is packed with 6000 mAh battery and this is one of the highlights of the phone. Once you fully charge it, the phone can last for more than one and half days. But it does not support fast charging and takes up to 3 hours to fully charge.

Samsung Galaxy M31 6GB+64GB Vs Realme 5Pro 8GB+128GB

If you ask me, I wouldn’t buy the Samsung Galaxy M31! I would rather consider Realme 5 Pro. Let’s look into quick specs of Realme 5 Pro 8GB+128GB variant which is listed for Rs. 16000/-

Display: 6.3” dewdrop display

Camera: AI Quad camera setup with 48MP and 16MP front camera with Sony IMX 471 sensor.

Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 AIF with Hyper Boost 2.0 for pro gaming.

Security: Fingerprint sensor and face unlock

Battery: 4035mAh massive battery with VOOC Flash Charge 3.0

When it comes to camera and battery, the numbers are less in Realme 5 Pro. However, I will publish another post discussing the camera setup and photo quality of these two phones. With respect to battery, I still prefer Realme 5 Pro as it packs fast charge 3.0 (charges quickly) and its chipset is energy efficient.

The Realme 5 Pro looks elegant and Galaxy M31 looks plastic and less premium. You can check Realme 5 Pro image and current price at Well, that’s my opinion and it’s your choice to decide on your favourite brands.
